How to Access Webmail (Linux Hosting) Print

  • 0

Applies to: Linux and WordPress hosting customers

Webmail lets you read and send your email from any browser — nothing to install. On our Linux hosting, webmail is provided by RoundCube, a clean, full-featured mail interface.

Before you start: point webmail at the server

The webmail address only works once a DNS record for webmail.yourdomain.co.za points at your hosting server. Add an A record for webmail using the same IP address as your website (or a CNAME for webmail pointing to yourdomain.co.za). If your domain's DNS is managed with us, see How to manage your DNS records. DNS changes can take a few hours to take effect.

Logging into webmail

  1. Go to https://webmail.yourdomain.co.za (replace with your own domain).
  2. Enter your full email address (e.g. info@yourdomain.co.za) as the username.
  3. Enter your mailbox password and log in.

Because webmail reads the same mailbox as IMAP on your phone and computer, everything stays in sync — read a mail in webmail and it shows as read everywhere.

What you can do in RoundCube

Everything you'd expect from a mail program: read, reply and forward with attachments, organise mail into folders, search, manage contacts, and set an identity/signature under Settings. It's a genuinely capable fallback if you're ever away from your own devices.

When webmail is the right tool

  • Anywhere access — any browser, any machine; just log out afterwards on shared computers.
  • Testing — if webmail works but Outlook doesn't, the mailbox is fine and it's the Outlook setup that needs attention. This one check saves lots of guesswork.
  • Housekeeping — clearing out big attachments when a mailbox nears its quota.

Frequently asked questions

My password isn't accepted — now what?
Use the full email address as the username. Still stuck? Reset the mailbox password in Virtualmin under Edit Users (see Setting up email accounts in Virtualmin).
