An SSL certificate is what puts the padlock in the browser and makes your site load over https://. Without one, browsers warn visitors that your site is "Not secure" — which costs trust and Google ranking. Here's how SSL works on Webtech's Windows hosting.
How SSL works on our Windows hosting
SSL certificates for websites on our Windows servers are provisioned and renewed automatically using Let's Encrypt — you don't need to buy, install or renew anything. New websites typically receive their certificate shortly after the domain starts pointing at our server.
You can check your certificate's status at any time in your client area: open your domain under Domains > My Domains — the Overview shows SSL Status, the issuer, and the expiry date.
If your site shows "Not secure"
- Check DNS first. Certificates can only be issued once your domain actually points at our server. If you've just moved or launched the site, allow up to 24 hours.
- Force https. If
https://yourdomain.co.zaworks but visitors still land onhttp://, your site should redirect them — this is a one-line change in your site's configuration; ask your developer or open a ticket. - Mixed content. If the padlock shows a warning, your pages are loading some images or scripts over http:// — update those links to https://.
- Still stuck? Open a support ticket with your domain name and we'll sort the certificate out.
Bringing your own certificate
If you've purchased a certificate elsewhere (for example an EV or organisation-validated certificate), it can be installed on your site — SolidCP's website properties include an SSL tab for certificate management, and we're happy to install it for you via a support ticket.
