Changing an email password regularly — or immediately if you suspect it's been compromised — keeps your mailbox and your domain's reputation safe. Here's how to do it in SolidCP.
Changing the password
- Log into SolidCP at https://panel.webtech.co.za (see How to log into SolidCP).
- Go to Mail > Accounts.
- Click the email address you want to update.
- In the Password and Confirm password fields, enter the new password — or click Generate Password for a strong random one. Aim for at least 12 characters with a mix of upper and lower case, numbers and symbols.
- Click Save. The change is immediate.
After changing it — update your devices
Every program and device that collects this mailbox will start prompting for the new password (or silently failing to sync) until you update it:
- Outlook / Mail apps — enter the new password when prompted, or update it under the account's settings.
- Phones and tablets — update the password in the mail account settings for both incoming and outgoing servers.
If a device keeps trying the old password too many times, it can temporarily trip security protections — so update all devices promptly after a password change.
Frequently asked questions
I've forgotten the current password — can I still change it?
Yes. SolidCP doesn't ask for the old password; anyone with control panel access can set a new one using the steps above.
Someone may have hacked the mailbox — is a new password enough?
Change the password immediately, then check the account's forwarding and autoresponder settings on the same page for anything you didn't set up — attackers sometimes add a hidden forward. If anything looks off, open a support ticket and we'll investigate.
